Religious leaders in Masaka used celebrations marking the birth of Prophet Muhammad to appeal for unity, peaceful coexistence and better use of resources as a foundation for Uganda’s social and economic development. The event took place at Masaka Liberation Square and brought together Muslims from different parts of the country, along with leaders from other faiths.

According to Nile Post, Bishop Severius Jjumba of Masaka Diocese urged Ugandans of different religions to avoid divisions based on faith and instead strengthen love and cooperation. He said Christians and Muslims share important spiritual common ground and should work together to improve livelihoods and support community development. The celebrations were held under the theme “Islam and Social Economic Development.”

Prince Kasim Nakibinge Kakungulu, the Head of the Muslim community in Uganda, echoed the message and called on people to stop fighting over minor differences. He said peace and stability benefit everyone and encouraged Ugandans to focus on issues that unite them.

The remarks fit a broader pattern in Uganda, where religious leaders often use major faith gatherings to promote interfaith harmony and civic responsibility. In this case, the message also linked peace to practical development, including the productive use of land and other resources.
