Benard Feni appointed to Malaria Free Uganda board

What the report says
Benard Feni, founder and chief executive officer of Euro Gold Refinery Uganda Ltd, has been named to the Board of Directors of Malaria Free Uganda, according to The Independent Uganda. The appointment was made by Health Minister Dr Chris Baryomunsi and is for a three-year term running from September 1, 2026, to August 31, 2029, with the possibility of one renewal under the board charter.
The article says Feni’s selection reflects his leadership and professional experience, and is meant to bring in private-sector input to Uganda’s malaria response. Malaria Free Uganda is a national initiative that works with the Ministry of Health to mobilise resources, build partnerships and encourage businesses, civil society groups and community leaders to support malaria prevention and control.
The board’s responsibilities include strategic oversight, resource mobilisation, advocacy, partnership development and supervision of budgets and the secretariat’s performance. The initiative is also seeking to establish an End Malaria Fund or foundation to help close financing gaps and support Uganda’s goal of eliminating malaria as a public health threat by 2030.
The Independent Uganda framed the appointment against Uganda’s continuing malaria burden, which affects households, health services and the wider economy. The report also noted ongoing prevention efforts such as mosquito net distribution, indoor residual spraying and expanded testing and treatment, while cautioning that sustained financing and coordination remain important.
