What the report says

BBC Sport Football reports that the FA Cup first qualifying round match between Knowle and Worcester City will be broadcast live on the BBC next month. The non-league fixture is scheduled for a 12:30 BST kick-off on Saturday, 5 September, and will be available on BBC iPlayer, Red Button, BBC Football’s YouTube channel and the BBC Sport website.

The BBC says this is the 10th year it has shown matches from the FA Cup qualifying rounds, with coverage continuing from the early stages of the competition through to the final at Wembley in May. The broadcast gives additional national exposure to a tie that normally would attract a smaller audience at this level.

Knowle have reached the competition after successive promotions to Step Five, the ninth tier of the English league system, and are taking part in the FA Cup for the first time. Worcester City, who play two divisions higher in Step Three, bring greater cup experience and a longer record in the competition.

BBC Sport notes that Worcester City’s past FA Cup history includes notable wins over Coventry City and Liverpool. More broadly, the match highlights how the FA Cup continues to provide coverage for clubs across the non-league pyramid alongside its better-known later rounds.
