Bayern Munich’s Musiala collapsed on-field as a result of medication change

What the report says
Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany said Jamal Musiala’s recent on-field collapses were linked to a change in treatment for a neurological condition, easing concerns after the 23-year-old midfielder fell during two consecutive friendly matches. Al Jazeera, citing Kompany and Bayern sporting director Max Eberl, reported that the club had known about the condition for some time, even before it was publicly disclosed.
Musiala collapsed six minutes after coming off the bench in Bayern’s 4-2 friendly win over Heidenheim on Tuesday, after also going down the previous weekend in a match against Leipzig. He later explained on Instagram that he had been diagnosed with temporary absence seizures caused by a neurological issue. According to the report, he was treated on the pitch and helped off, and there was no indication from the club of a broader emergency.
Kompany said Musiala had altered his medication and that side effects were expected during treatment adjustments. Eberl said the player had wanted the condition to be made public and that teammates were already aware. Bayern said Musiala would not be included in Saturday’s German Supercup squad against Borussia Dortmund, giving him time to adapt.
The episode matters because Musiala is one of Bayern’s and Germany’s most prominent young players, and the club is managing both his health and the public attention around it. More broadly, the report reflects how elite teams sometimes balance athlete privacy, medical treatment and competitive availability when health issues surface.
