Bateebe, Ggoobi appointed to Kenya Pipeline Company board

What the report says

The Independent Uganda, citing URN, reported that Uganda’s Secretary to the Treasury, Dr. Ramathan Ggoobi, and the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development, Eng. Irene Pauline Bateebe, have been named Non-Executive Directors of Kenya Pipeline Company PLC. The appointments were announced by KPC through a public notice and took effect on July 28, 2026.

KPC is a Kenyan state-owned company that transports, stores and distributes petroleum products within Kenya and to neighbouring markets, including Uganda. The report said Ggoobi brings experience in economics, public policy, macroeconomic management and public finance, while Bateebe has worked for more than 20 years in Uganda’s energy and petroleum sector, including roles linked to UNOC, the Uganda Energy Credit Capitalisation Company and the Uganda Refinery Holding Company.

Other new appointees named in the report include former Kenya National Highways Authority Director General Meshack Otieno Kidenda, National Treasury Technical Adviser Samson Kipkemboi Burgei and Kenya NSSF Managing Trustee and CEO Ronald Kenyanya Nyamosi. Uganda’s Energy Ministry welcomed the appointments in a statement on its official social media platforms.

The Independent said the move follows Uganda’s acquisition of a stake in KPC and is significant because Uganda depends heavily on Kenya’s pipeline and fuel import infrastructure for refined petroleum products moving from Mombasa. The appointments are expected to give Uganda a stronger voice in decisions on pipeline operations, storage, infrastructure development and regional fuel logistics as Kampala and Nairobi deepen energy cooperation.
