Baryomunsi Pledges Rehabilitation of Kashambya Health Centre III, Support for Itojo General Hospital

What the report says
Health Minister Dr. Chris Baryomunsi has pledged action on two public health facilities in southwestern Uganda after visiting them and reviewing problems affecting service delivery. According to Nile Post, he said the government will work toward rehabilitating aging infrastructure at Kashambya Health Centre III in Rukiga District and will also seek additional support for Itojo General Hospital in Ntungamo District.
At Kashambya Health Centre III, the minister toured buildings that local officials and health workers described as severely worn and overcrowded. The facility, which the report says dates to the 1970s, is operating with a leaking outpatient department and limited space, forcing several services to share rooms. Local leaders raised concerns about the effect of these conditions on patients, including maternal care, and asked for urgent intervention.
The report says Baryomunsi responded by promising to send engineers from the Ministry of Health to assess which structures can be repaired immediately. He said the main issue was the dilapidated state of the buildings and that support would be coordinated with relevant stakeholders.
At Itojo General Hospital, hospital managers highlighted the need for a new generator, more staff and equipment such as CT scan and X-ray services. Baryomunsi said he would take the concerns to central government. The visit formed part of the government’s wider “Kisanja Hakuna Mchezo” service delivery assessment programme, which involves inspections of public facilities across Uganda.
