What the report says

Barcelona completed the signing of Brazilian forward Gabriel Jesus from Arsenal on Tuesday, with the deal running until 2029, according to Al Jazeera’s report citing a club statement and Spanish media. The move came on transfer deadline day after Barcelona were unable to secure Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez, whom the Spanish champions pursued over the summer.

The reported fee was about 10 million euros, or roughly $11.6 million. Jesus, 29, said the chance to join Barcelona had long appealed to him and described the move as a dream. Barcelona coach Hansi Flick also welcomed the transfer, saying Jesus’ style suited the team and could add important depth to the attack.

The signing addresses a forward line that has been weakened by the departures of Robert Lewandowski and Ferran Torres earlier in the summer. Barcelona had considered ending the window without another central striker, especially after winger Raphinha had been used in that role, but ultimately decided to add Jesus.

Jesus arrives after a difficult spell at Arsenal, where a serious knee injury in January 2025 disrupted his season. He scored 32 goals in four seasons for Arsenal and previously had a prolific six-year stint at Manchester City. The transfer matters because it gives Barcelona an experienced attacking option as they look to remain competitive in La Liga and beyond.
