What the report says

Barcelona have agreed a deal to sign Spain captain Rodri from Manchester City for about £65m, according to BBC Sport Football. The 30-year-old midfielder is expected to join the Spanish champions on a four-year contract, with the transfer set to be completed in the coming days. The move comes after Rodri returned to top form at the recent World Cup, where he helped lead Spain to the title and was named player of the tournament.

Rodri joined City from Atletico Madrid in 2019 and made 298 appearances over seven seasons, becoming a central figure in one of the club’s most successful periods. He leaves with 12 major honours, including four Premier League titles, two FA Cups, three EFL Cups and the Champions League in 2022-23. BBC Sport also notes that he won the Ballon d’Or in 2024.

His time at City was affected by injury. He missed much of the 2024-25 season after a serious knee problem and also had parts of the previous campaign disrupted by a hamstring issue. The reported agreement would mark a major midfield change for both clubs, and it highlights Barcelona’s intent to strengthen with an established international leader. As with any high-profile transfer, the deal still needs to be finalized in the coming days.
