Bangladesh expect ‘harder’ Australia challenge in second Test, says coach

What the report says
Bangladesh head into the second Test against Australia in Mackay with momentum after a surprise nine-wicket win in Darwin, but coach Phil Simmons says his players should expect a stronger response from the hosts. Al Jazeera reported that the match begins Saturday at the Great Barrier Reef Arena, where Australia entered as the World Test Championship standings leaders.
Simmons said Bangladesh cannot be complacent after recording their first Test victory on Australian soil, describing the result as one of the most satisfying of his coaching career. He suggested the team should try to maintain its level from Darwin, or improve slightly, because Australia are likely to alter their approach and “come harder” in the rematch.
Australia made one confirmed change to their lineup, bringing in Matt Renshaw at the top of the order in place of Jake Weatherald. There had also been brief uncertainty over whether spinner Nathan Lyon would keep his spot on a pace-friendly pitch, but officials later confirmed he would play. Captain Pat Cummins said his side had not performed near its best in the opener, aside from useful contributions from Steve Smith and Cameron Green, and he wants a better result in Mackay.
Bangladesh may also consider whether to stick with the winning XI or recall left-arm pacer Shoriful Islam, who missed the first Test because of a hamstring injury. The series matters beyond the immediate result because it tests Bangladesh’s ability to back up a breakthrough win and Australia’s response at home after an upset defeat.
