Bamutakudde Residents Add a Green Touch to National Cleaning Day

Residents of Bamutakudde Village in Kyampisi Sub-county, Mukono District, marked National Cleaning Day by pairing their usual community clean-up with a tree-planting drive, according to Nile Post. The effort brought together villagers who swept roads, collected garbage and cleared public spaces before planting part of 2,000 seedlings donated by Good Forests Foundation Uganda.

The seedlings included shade, timber and fruit trees, with species such as avocado, cocoa and jackfruit. Some were planted along village roads, while others were handed to households to grow at home. Village leader Solomon Serwanjja said the aim was to make the area greener, improve road aesthetics and create both environmental and economic benefits for residents. He also said the community cleans every Saturday, not just on the usual monthly national exercise day.

Nile Post reported that the foundation also trained residents on planting and maintenance, including watering, pruning and pest control. A resident interviewed for the story said she planned to apply the lessons by caring for the seedlings and using animal manure to improve soil fertility.
