Australia bowl out South Africa to win first Test in Durban

What the report says
Australia took a 214-run victory over South Africa in the first Test at Kingsmead Stadium in Durban, finishing the match on the fifth day and going 1-0 up in the three-match series. According to Al Jazeera’s report based on Reuters, the visitors needed six wickets on the final day and closed out the home side before tea after South Africa were dismissed for 206.
Josh Hazlewood was the key bowler, returning figures of 6-49 and finishing with eight wickets in the match. He made early breakthroughs with the new ball, then helped remove South Africa’s lower order after a stubborn stand from Aiden Markram and Wiaan Mulder had briefly delayed the result. Markram top-scored for South Africa with 75, while Mulder made 29. South Africa’s attempt to recover ended quickly once Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc and wicketkeeper Alex Carey combined to break the partnerships.
The win is notable because it came against South Africa in the first Test meeting between the sides since South Africa beat Australia in last year’s World Test Championship final at Lord’s. Australia also had a standout contribution from Matt Renshaw, who was named man of the match for his batting. The match report noted that Steve Smith returned to the field on Tuesday after being assessed under concussion protocols.
