Gear Patrol reports that Cayin has introduced the CP6, a premium portable CD player aimed at listeners revisiting physical music collections amid renewed interest in CDs. The publication says several hi-fi brands, including Fiio, Shanling and Fosi, have released modern portable CD players in the past year, typically priced around $150 to $300, but Cayin’s new model is positioned as a higher-end option at $699.

According to Gear Patrol, the CP6 keeps the basic appeal of a portable CD player while adding current audio features. It includes Bluetooth with support for codecs such as LDAC, aptX Adaptive, aptX HD, aptX, AAC and SBC, allowing compatible wireless headphones to receive CD audio. The article notes that LDAC’s higher-bitrate capability depends on headphone support, which is not universal.

The CP6 is described as especially focused on wired headphone users. Gear Patrol says it uses Raytheon JAN6418 vacuum tubes, Class A amplification and a high-resolution DAC, with three selectable sound modes: a warmer tube-style setting, a wider “modern” presentation and a more neutral solid-state option. It includes both 3.5mm single-ended and 4.4mm balanced headphone outputs.

Gear Patrol also highlights the player’s aluminum chassis, 2.3-inch display, physical controls, anti-shock CD mechanism, and ability to rip CDs to a computer or serve as a Bluetooth DAC or standalone headphone amplifier. The CP6 is available now through authorized U.S. retailers, including Bloom Audio. The launch matters as another sign that audio companies are building new products around renewed enthusiasm for physical media.
