What the report says

Members of the Atek Omwonpel Clan have publicly opposed the Lango Cultural Foundation’s plan to lead the memorial prayer service for the late Won-Nyaci, Yosam Odur Ebii, according to Dokolo Post. The service is scheduled for November 14, 2026, at Teboke in Apac District, where the foundation also plans to present Okii Benjamin as the successor to the late cultural leader.

At a media briefing in Lira on Wednesday, November 4, Deputy Awitong Ojede Abenego said parts of the clan were dissatisfied because, in their view, the arrangement was endorsed without proper consultation. He argued that the clan’s leadership could not bind all members to a decision taken by a small group, and several speakers questioned whether the Awitong had the authority to commit the wider clan to the LCF-led event.

The clan’s spiritual leader also criticized the process, saying the matter should first have been discussed by the executive committee. In response, Awitong Anthony Olobo Odur said critics should have raised their concerns directly with him instead of going to the press, and he questioned their participation in clan meetings.

LCF spokesperson Jacob Ocen said the foundation had already completed the election and swearing-in of Benjamin Okii as successor. He also said the late Won-Nyaci was a member of LCF, and that the foundation had a duty to organize the memorial. Ocen added that the decision was made by the Council of Owitong and that LCF had not received any formal request from the clan to step aside.
