The attack hit people gathered along the Heijah al-Abd road, south of Taiz city, in an area that has seen intense fighting between Houthi forces and Yemen’s Saudi-backed government troops.

The strike came as clashes escalated across the Taiz and Hodeidah governorates. Al Jazeera reported that government forces said they had recently retaken several positions on the Haifan front south of Taiz, while military officials on both sides described shifts in control over strategic heights and supply routes. The fighting is tied to broader efforts to influence access toward the Red Sea corridor, including the Bab al-Mandeb area and the port city of al-Makha.

The violence has also deepened an already severe humanitarian crisis. The UN humanitarian office, as cited in the report, said nearly 1,800 families fled in less than 48 hours after renewed shelling. Aid groups warned that some people remain trapped near front lines, while others have reached safer areas with little food, shelter or basic supplies. The report said communications disruptions and depleted relief stocks are complicating assistance.
