At least five people missing as flash floods in Nepal sweep away houses

What the report says
Flash floods in central Nepal have swept away homes and left at least five people missing, according to Al Jazeera’s report based on officials and emergency authorities. The flooding followed a landslide in Chumnubri village in Gorkha district, about 100km west of Kathmandu, which blocked the Budhi Gandaki River and caused it to burst its banks downstream. The article said two women and three men were unaccounted for, while at least 82 people, including nine foreign nationals, had been rescued.
Authorities said the flood destroyed about a dozen houses and two suspension bridges, damaged a camp linked to a hydroelectric project and washed away construction equipment. A highway bridge connecting Gorkha and neighboring Dhading district was also lost. Disaster officials warned residents in several districts along the river, including Gorkha, Tanahun, Chitwan, East Nawalparasi and West Nawalparasi, to move to safer places and stay alert.
Local and national officials said army and police rescue teams reached the area, with helicopter monitoring also underway. A district official quoted in the report described the scene as frightening, while saying there were no confirmed deaths at the time of publication. The flooding came only weeks after severe weather in Nepal caused deadly floods and landslides, underscoring the country’s repeated exposure to monsoon-related disasters and river blockage events.
