At least five killed in Sudan’s South Kordofan in attack by rebel group

At least five people, including a child, were killed and several others wounded after shelling hit residential areas in Dilling, a town in Sudan’s South Kordofan province, according to the Sudan Doctors Network, as reported by Al Jazeera on Friday, September 5, 2026. The Dilling attack came shortly after the same medical group said SPLM-N fighters killed more than 21 people in separate strikes near Kauda, also in South Kordofan, including women and children. The group said those earlier assaults targeted the Otoro community. The reported violence adds to fighting in the wider Sudan war, which has continued since April 2023 and has displaced millions. Al Jazeera also noted a UN-backed warning that outside support, including weapons networks and drones, is worsening the conflict and civilian suffering.
