Asia-Pacific Media Forum unveils consensus on shared prosperity

The Asia-Pacific Media Forum opened on Saturday in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, and produced a consensus calling for joint efforts to support prosperity and development across the Asia-Pacific region, according to Xinhua’s report republished by The Independent Uganda. The event brought together more than 400 delegates from over 40 countries and regions, along with representatives of UN agencies and other international organizations.

At the opening ceremony, 16 founding organizations from China and abroad set up the Organizing Committee of the Asia-Pacific Media Partnership Program. The forum’s Shenzhen Consensus highlighted the importance of openness, innovation and cooperation, and linked the region’s future to support for multilateral trade, regional connectivity and stable industrial and supply chains. Participants also said the media should help explain digital, intelligent and green transformation, including wider use of artificial intelligence in news work and greater attention to clean energy and low-carbon development.

The gathering also emphasized cultural exchange and closer media cooperation through joint interviews, shared projects and people-to-people links in areas such as tourism, youth engagement and culture. Delegates said Chinese modernization offers opportunities for the region, citing visits to cities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. The forum also saw the launch of a multimedia campaign on “Asia-Pacific development stories” and a Shenzhen-led media cooperation initiative focused on technology sharing, content creation and training.
