As the U.S.-Iran war heats up again, these parts of the stock market and economy could be affected - CNBC

What the report says
CNBC reported that renewed U.S.-Iran fighting over the weekend has prompted investors and economists to reassess the conflict’s potential economic impact. According to the report, the U.S. carried out a 10th consecutive night of strikes against Iran on Monday after Yemen’s Houthis announced a maritime embargo against Saudi Arabia, while a third U.S. service member died in the recent fighting. President Donald Trump said the U.S. would respond.
Markets have so far shown limited stress. CNBC noted that the S&P 500 slipped only slightly Monday after a losing week and remained close to its June record. Still, the report said oil and bond markets are drawing more concern: Brent crude briefly moved above $90 a barrel Monday, and the 10-year Treasury yield traded above 4.6%. Analysts cited by CNBC said a prolonged period of high crude prices could pressure earnings estimates, inflation expectations and monetary policy assumptions.
The economic concern centers on consumers and companies exposed to fuel costs. Moody’s Analytics chief economist Mark Zandi told CNBC the situation presents downside risk for the U.S. and global economies, depending heavily on energy and commodity prices. CNBC also cited AAA data showing gasoline at $4 per gallon Monday, and Bureau of Economic Analysis data showing the personal saving rate at 3% in May.
CNBC reported that sectors such as energy-intensive logistics, airlines and value-focused retailers could be vulnerable if fuel prices stay elevated, while warehouse clubs may benefit as shoppers seek cheaper gasoline and bulk value. The Strait of Hormuz remains a key risk point investors are monitoring for further escalation.
