Arsenal sign Spain goalkeeper Rodriguez on free

What the report says
BBC Sport reports that Arsenal have signed Spain goalkeeper Misa Rodriguez on a free transfer, making her the Women’s Super League club’s sixth addition of the summer. The 27-year-old arrives after leaving Real Madrid at the end of last season and has been assigned the number 16 shirt at Arsenal.
Rodriguez joins a goalkeeping group that includes Daphne van Domselaar and Anneke Borbe, both of whom BBC Sport notes dealt with injury issues last season. Arsenal said Rodriguez expressed pride at joining the club and spoke of wanting to contribute to trophy challenges and further success with supporters.
The move brings Arsenal an experienced international goalkeeper. During six years with Real Madrid, Rodriguez made 215 appearances, which BBC Sport identifies as a club record, and she was named captain last year. She has also won 34 caps for Spain since her senior debut in 2021, including three appearances during Spain’s 2023 Women’s World Cup-winning campaign, although Barcelona’s Cata Coll has since become the preferred starter.
BBC Sport frames the signing as part of a busy Arsenal transfer window under Renee Slegers, with Georgia Stanway, Ona Batlle, Selina Cerci, Geraldine Reuteler and Lisa Baum also joining the squad. The club are preparing for the 2026-27 WSL season after finishing second in the league last season and reaching the Women’s Champions League semi-finals.
