What the report says

Arsenal have completed the signing of Brazil midfielder Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United in a £75m deal, according to BBC Sport Football. The 28-year-old has agreed a four-year contract with an option for a further 12 months, and the move follows talks that allowed him to leave Newcastle’s pre-season camp in Spain to finalise the transfer to Emirates Stadium.

BBC Sport reported that Guimaraes had made clear earlier in the summer that he wanted the switch to the Premier League champions. He described the decision as a difficult one because of his connection to Newcastle, where he had been captain, but said he felt ready for a new challenge for himself and his family. Newcastle said they wished him and his family well.

Guimaraes arrived at Newcastle in January 2022, when the club were battling relegation, and became a central figure in their improvement under Eddie Howe. He helped Newcastle win the 2025 EFL Cup, ending a long wait for a major domestic trophy, and was also part of the sides that qualified for the Champions League in 2023 and 2025. His departure comes after Newcastle finished 12th in the Premier League last season. In a broader sense, the transfer strengthens Arsenal’s midfield options as they look to build on their title-winning campaign.
