Arokodare forces Wolves training to be cancelled

BBC Sport reports that Wolves striker Tolu Arokodare caused a pre-season training session to be called off on Monday after refusing to leave the pitch. According to the BBC, the 25-year-old sat down during the session and asked the club to allow him to join Fiorentina.

The report says Wolves have turned down an offer from the Italian Serie A club, while accepting a bid from Turkish side Trabzonspor. New head coach Cesar Peixoto ended the session as a result of the incident, and Arokodare is not expected to take part in Wednesday’s friendly away to Maidenhead United as the club continues its pre-season schedule.

The episode adds to recent tension around the forward at Molineux. BBC Sport notes that Arokodare was disciplined in April after a confrontation with young attacker Mateus Mane. He joined Wolves from Genk last summer for £24m and, according to the report, scored three Premier League goals as the club finished bottom and were relegated.

For Peixoto, the situation is an early test only weeks after he replaced Rob Edwards. The former Gil Vicente manager, who won one cap for Portugal as a player, has taken over with Wolves preparing for life in the Championship and aiming to return to the Premier League at the first opportunity. The transfer dispute could affect both squad planning and dressing-room stability during a key stage of pre-season.
