Arikos Warns Voters Against Electing LC2 Leaders for Money, Favours

Kaberamaido Assistant Resident District Commissioner Arikos Peter has urged residents to avoid choosing Local Council II (LC2) leaders because of money, alcohol, fear or short-term personal favours. In remarks reported by Dokolo Post, he said such voting patterns could weaken community development and leave grassroots leadership in the hands of people who are not prepared to serve broadly.

Arikos made the appeal ahead of LC2 elections scheduled for Monday, August 10, 2026, in Kaberamaido, Uganda. He told voters to focus instead on a candidate’s integrity, character and ability to serve the whole community. He said local leaders are important in settling disputes, promoting peace, mobilising residents and helping implement government programmes.

He also encouraged voters to examine whether candidates will listen to residents, treat supporters and opponents fairly, protect public resources and stay available when problems emerge. Arikos linked effective LC2 leadership to efforts such as the Parish Development Model, sanitation work, security initiatives and other grassroots development activities.

Beyond election day, he urged residents to stay involved through community meetings, development activities and lawful accountability for elected leaders. He also called for peace, high turnout and informed voting, and said he wanted residents to support NRM flag bearers as part of broader service and socio-economic transformation at the local level.
