Arikos Urges Youth to Use Sport to Build Unity in Kaberamaido

Kaberamaido Assistant Resident District Commissioner Arikos Peter used the final of a local football tournament to encourage young people to view sport as a tool for unity, discipline, talent development and peaceful coexistence. According to Dokolo Post, he delivered the remarks on Sunday while officiating the closing match of an inter-village competition at Kaberamaido Technical Institution in Kobulubulu Sub-county.

The week-long tournament featured six village teams from Kabalqueru Parish, with group games beginning on Monday before the final on Sunday. The losers’ match was held first, followed by the main final between Ogobai Village and Abata Village later in the afternoon. Ogobai won the title after defeating Abata in the championship match.

Arikos praised the organisers, players, villages and supporters for helping the event run successfully. He said community sports give young people a chance to interact, display their abilities and build teamwork. He also encouraged similar activities in other communities, arguing that regular sporting events can help strengthen social cohesion and improve relations among youth.

More broadly, local sports tournaments in Uganda often serve as informal community gatherings as well as competition, especially in rural areas where they can bring together residents from different villages. In this case, the final marked the end of a week of football activity that drew participation from across the parish.
