MacRumors reports that Apple is expected to introduce a new “Apple Upgrade” program in the United States on Tuesday, July 28, citing Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. According to the report, Apple will end new sign-ups for its existing iPhone Upgrade Program that same day, though current participants are expected to be allowed to stay enrolled for now.

The reported program would be run in partnership with Klarna, the buy-now, pay-later financial services company. MacRumors says the plan would cover leasing for most iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Watch models. The terms described by Gurman are 24 months for iPhones and Apple Watches, and 36 months for iPads and Macs. At the end of a term, customers would reportedly have choices such as sending the device back, moving to a newer model, or paying an additional amount to keep it.

Not every product is expected to qualify. The report says some lower-cost devices, including Apple Watch SE, the entry-level iPad, iPhone 16 and MacBook Neo, would be excluded. Unlike Apple’s current iPhone Upgrade Program, the new leasing plans reportedly would not bundle AppleCare+ into the monthly payment.

The development matters because it would mark a broader shift from Apple’s iPhone-focused upgrade financing toward a leasing-style program across several major product lines. MacRumors, relaying Gurman’s reporting, says Apple is expected to promote the option as offering lower monthly payments than existing financing arrangements, suggesting the company may be aiming to make frequent device upgrades more accessible while changing how customers pay for and retain Apple hardware.
