MacRumors reported that Apple is preparing a broad Mac refresh cycle across late 2026 and 2027, even as a global memory-chip shortage affects computer makers and pushes up component costs. The site said Apple has already introduced the MacBook Neo and updated MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models with M5-series chips, but additional Mac updates are expected before the end of 2026.

According to the report, Apple’s fall 2026 plans include an entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro with an M6 chip, described as one of the first Macs expected to use Apple’s 2-nanometer chip technology, along with a refreshed 24-inch iMac likely using M6 and retaining its current design. A redesigned higher-end MacBook Pro, possibly branded as a MacBook Ultra, could arrive from late 2026 to early 2027 with an OLED touchscreen, but MacRumors said it may use M5 Pro and M5 Max chips rather than M6 Pro or M6 Max.

MacRumors also said Mac Studio and Mac mini updates are in development, though timing is uncertain because of memory supply and pricing pressures. For 2027, the report points to updated 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air models, another entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro that could move to M7, and a revised low-cost MacBook Neo with an A19 Pro chip, more memory and possible new colors.

The roadmap matters because it suggests Apple may mix chip generations while navigating supply constraints and rising demand for Macs used in on-device AI work. Citing Bloomberg, MacRumors said Apple is accelerating M7 development for AI workloads while skipping some M6 variants, with later OLED MacBook Pro, MacBook Air and iMac plans extending into 2028.
