What the report says

Anthropic has disclosed a sharp jump in revenue to prospective investors as it prepares for a possible stock market listing later this year, according to BBC World News. The Claude developer reportedly told investors at its San Francisco headquarters that revenue reached $16.8bn in the three months to the end of September, up 45% from the previous period. The company also reportedly said it posted a profit for a second straight quarter.

The BBC said the briefing was part of Anthropic’s groundwork for an initial public offering expected before year-end. Anthropic declined to comment. The figures matter because they provide one of the clearest public gauges of demand for AI services and the industry’s ability to fund the costly computing infrastructure needed to build and run large models.

The report comes amid broader investor concern about heavy spending on AI infrastructure, including data centres, chips and related hardware. Shares in several technology and semiconductor companies fell as those worries spread, with pressure also hitting major names in the US and Asia.

More generally, Anthropic is one of the leading US AI firms and a close rival to OpenAI. The company has continued expanding internationally, including opening an office in Singapore, while executives across the sector face questions about profitability, safety and whether the current pace of investment can be sustained.
