Anthony Smith allegedly threatened to kill wife, attempted to strike her 'multiple times' with vehicle, authorities say - Yahoo Sports

What the report says
Yahoo Entertainment/Yahoo Sports reported that Anthony Smith, a longtime UFC broadcast analyst and former light heavyweight title challenger, was arrested this week in Nebraska after authorities accused him of threatening his wife and trying to hit her with a vehicle. The 38-year-old was booked Monday into Sarpy County Jail on three potential felony counts: terroristic threats, first-degree false imprisonment and first-degree domestic assault.
According to the report, the Sarpy County District Attorney’s Office said Wednesday that Smith was allegedly involved in an altercation with his wife at a bar in Gretna, Nebraska. Authorities alleged he threatened to kill her if she did not get into his vehicle and leave with him, then forced her into the vehicle. The statement further alleged that after she escaped during the drive, Smith attempted several times to use the vehicle to strike her. Authorities said she avoided physical injury and that Smith surrendered without incident after a warrant was issued.
Smith was released Wednesday morning after posting a $500,000 bond, Yahoo reported. Bond conditions bar him from contacting his wife and prohibit him from leaving Nebraska without approval from a judge. He is scheduled to return to court on Aug. 17. The report said the combined charges could carry a potential sentence of more than 20 years if he is convicted.
Smith retired from UFC competition in 2025 after a nine-year run with the promotion, including a 2019 title fight against Jon Jones, but continued as an analyst. The allegations remain pending in court, and the charges have not been adjudicated.
