The New York Post reported that Anthony Joshua kept a potential all-British heavyweight meeting with Tyson Fury alive by stopping Kristian Prenga in the second round of a non-title bout Saturday in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Joshua, a former two-time world champion, was dropped twice in the opening round, first by an early uppercut and then by another Prenga attack, but beat the count both times and made it to the bell.

According to the Post, the fight then swung sharply in Joshua’s favor. He attacked in the second round and ended the contest with a right hook that sent Prenga through the lower ropes. The report said Oleksandr Usyk was watching from ringside and appeared surprised by the sudden reversal. Joshua improved to 30-4 with 27 knockouts, while Prenga entered the matchup with a 20-1 record and 20 knockouts.

The result matters because Joshua’s manager, Eddie Hearn, has said Joshua and Fury have signed to fight later this year if both men won their respective tuneups. Fury reportedly met that condition Friday in Pattaya, Thailand, where he stopped 46-year-old Mariusz Wach in the seventh round after returning from retirement.

The Post also noted that this was Joshua’s first fight since a December car crash in Nigeria that injured him and killed his friends Sina Ghami and Latif “Latz” Ayodele. After the win, Joshua connected the finish to his late friends and framed the comeback as an example of resilience.
