ANT Appoints Kassiano Wadri as New National Coordinator

Nile Post reports that the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) has named veteran opposition figure Kassiano Wadri as its new National Coordinator, taking over from Alice Alaso, who had held the position since 2020. The party announced the change on Wednesday as it works to reinforce its organisation and grassroots mobilisation ahead of Uganda’s 2026 political cycle.

According to the report, ANT said Wadri’s long record in public service and opposition politics would support the party’s efforts to build stronger structures and promote its stated goal of changing Uganda’s political culture. ANT president Gen Mugisha Muntu welcomed the appointment and credited Wadri with experience that could help guide the party’s next phase. Muntu also thanked Alaso, saying her tenure helped expand the party’s reach, including gains in Parliament, local government representation and internal structures.

Nile Post adds that Muntu framed the transition as part of ANT’s broader message on peaceful and orderly leadership change. He said political leadership changes should not become divisive and argued that parties should model democratic practices from the grassroots upward.

Wadri previously represented Terego County in Parliament for three terms from 2001 to 2016 on the Forum for Democratic Change ticket. He served as Opposition Chief Whip and chaired Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee. He later won the 2018 Arua Municipality by-election as an independent while in detention on treason charges linked to campaign-period violence; Nile Post reports those charges were later dropped. Wadri subsequently joined ANT and has been active in party-building, especially in the West Nile sub-region.
