Anita Rukundo Tayebwa to link Uganda, Bahamas tourism sectors

What the report says
Anita Rukundo Tayebwa, Uganda’s newly appointed honorary consul of The Bahamas, said she wants to deepen tourism ties between Uganda and the Caribbean nation, according to The Independent Uganda. She made the comments in Kampala after presenting her credentials to Foreign Affairs Minister Adonia Ayebare on Thursday evening. Her stated goal is to help Uganda draw on The Bahamas’ experience in attracting visitors, developing hospitality services and growing tourism revenue.
The report said Tayebwa pointed to the gap between the two countries’ tourism performance, citing The Bahamas’ larger visitor numbers and higher earnings in 2025 compared with Uganda. She argued that Uganda could benefit from stronger destination marketing, better visitor experience management, investment in resorts and branding partnerships. She also said her office would look for ways to connect tour operators, government agencies and private sector actors in both countries so they can create complementary travel packages and expand business links.
Ayebare welcomed the appointment and said Uganda expects it to support the country’s interests. The article also quoted Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa, who praised his wife’s work and said he believes she can help promote high-value tourism around Uganda’s wildlife and other attractions. Tourism investor Amos Wekesa suggested the partnership could also support development of water-based tourism, including around Lake Victoria. The report frames the appointment as part of broader efforts to use diplomatic and private-sector ties to boost Uganda’s tourism sector.
