Anita Rukundo Tayebwa to Link Uganda and Bahamas Tourism Sectors

What the report says
Uganda’s new honorary consul to The Bahamas, Anita Rukundo Tayebwa, says she plans to use her role to build tourism ties between the two countries through partnerships, destination marketing and knowledge sharing. She made the remarks in Kampala after presenting her letters of credence to Foreign Affairs Minister Adonia Ayebare, according to Nile Post.
Rukundo said Uganda could learn from The Bahamas’ tourism model, especially in attracting international visitors and earning more revenue from the sector. She pointed to the gap between the two countries, saying The Bahamas has developed a stronger tourism industry despite its smaller size. Her priorities include branding, promotion, hospitality, resort development, visitor experience and tourism investment.
She also said the office would encourage links between Ugandan and Bahamian businesses and government bodies, including helping tour operators develop packages that connect attractions in both destinations. The goal, she said, is to draw more visitors to Uganda and support cooperation between the private sectors. Foreign Affairs Minister Adonia Ayebare welcomed the appointment and said Uganda expects benefits from the relationship.
The report adds that Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa, her husband, praised her appointment and said The Bahamas could offer lessons in attracting high-value visitors. Tourism investor Amos Wekesa also suggested the partnership could help Uganda better use Lake Victoria and other water-based attractions.
