Arrowhead Pride reported that Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid opened the team’s unofficial start to training camp Friday with updates on several injured players as quarterbacks, rookies and selected veterans reported to Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, Missouri. The most notable update was on quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who Reid said has been cleared to take part in practice, including the team’s scheduled periods, after sustaining ACL and LCL injuries in December.

Reid indicated that the Chiefs will monitor Mahomes closely with input from coaches, trainers and doctors, but the initial plan is for full participation. Wide receiver Rashee Rice, who had a knee debridement after a previous injury and was away from the team late in the offseason, was also described as cleared to participate, with the club planning to watch his workload.

Defensive tackle Omarr Norman-Lott is expected to begin camp on the Active/Physically-Unable-to-Perform list as he continues recovery from an ACL tear suffered in Week 7 of the 2025 season. Reid said rookie cornerback Mansoor Delane, who missed mandatory minicamp with a shoulder issue, was undergoing a final physical. Veteran cornerback L’Jarius Sneed, back with Kansas City after two seasons with Tennessee, is expected to be eased in because of knee management.

Reid also said undrafted rookie tight end John Michael Gyllenborg is still dealing with a knee sprain and may see little work in camp while further evaluations continue. The report noted that players who practice during camp lose PUP eligibility, making early injury designations significant for roster planning before the regular season.
