What the report says

Uganda is stepping up efforts to attract more French travelers by emphasizing stronger tourism marketing, according to Ambassador Doreen Ruth Amule, Uganda’s envoy to France, Spain and Portugal and permanent delegate to UNESCO. Speaking in Paris on Tuesday at the 2026 IFTM Top Resa tourism exhibition, she said Uganda must stay visible in a competitive European market and work to raise its profile alongside destinations such as Kenya, Tanzania, South Africa and Rwanda.

The Dokolo Post report says Uganda is presenting its tourism offer in Paris to French travel agents, tour operators and investors. Amule highlighted the country’s wildlife, nature, culture and people as core attractions, while noting that participation in international expos and wider promotion through digital platforms, translated materials, media, travel agents and influencers have helped improve awareness.

The article says Uganda received 7,439 French visitors in 2025, more than twice the 2024 figure, and is targeting at least 13,000 French visitors. It also has a combined goal of 18,000 visitors from France, Spain and Portugal. Amule said private tour operators are increasingly joining the effort, reflecting growing interest in the French market.

State Minister for Tourism Susan Nakawuki also urged more investment in destination marketing and closer cooperation between government and the private sector. Tour operator Anne Nakure said French travel agents are looking beyond gorilla trekking, seeing potential for longer itineraries that include wildlife, birding, cultural and adventure tourism. The exhibition runs from September 15 to 17 at Paris Expo Porte de Versailles.
