Among Attends State House CEC Meeting in First Public Outing Since May

What the report says
Former Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among attended a National Resistance Movement Central Executive Committee meeting at State House Entebbe, according to Nile Post, in what the outlet described as her first major public political appearance in months. The meeting brought her back into the ruling party’s top decision-making circle after a long period out of the spotlight.
Nile Post said Among had stepped back from the race for Speaker of the 12th Parliament amid corruption and abuse-of-office scrutiny. The article says security operations later targeted properties linked to her, including searches at homes in Nakasero and Kigo and at other locations, while she was also under house arrest for about 100 days. The report notes that she had not been formally charged at the time she withdrew from the Speakership contest.
Among announced in May that she would not seek the post, saying the move followed consultations and was meant to protect harmony within the NRM. Her withdrawal opened the way for Jacob Marksons Oboth-Oboth to become the party’s candidate, and Parliament later elected him Speaker while Thomas Tayebwa remained Deputy Speaker.
The Nile Post report says the political situation shifted again in August, when CDF Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba said President Museveni had ordered that Among be released and would not be prosecuted. Her appearance at the CEC meeting now places her back among senior NRM leaders, though the article says it is still unclear whether the gathering will affect her future role in the party.
