What the report says

American actor and singer Tyrese Gibson has arrived in Kampala for a three-day visit centered on the launch of Uganda’s Explore Uganda Coffee Tourism campaign, according to The Observer. The initiative is designed to promote the country’s coffee culture, boost coffee consumption and link visitors to tourism experiences connected to coffee production and heritage.

The publication said Gibson’s trip follows an invitation from the Government of Uganda and private-sector partners. The official launch is expected at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the campaign is a joint effort involving the Uganda Tourism Board, Kampala Capital City Authority, the ministry and the Africa Coffee Park. Organizers want to position Kampala as a place where tourists can explore Uganda’s coffee value chain alongside other attractions.

During the visit, Gibson is expected to travel to the Source of the Nile, take part in a coffee-tree planting activity and meet coffee farmers in western Uganda. He is also scheduled to meet President Yoweri Museveni. The Observer said the trip is intended to give Uganda international visibility and support efforts to market the country as a destination for cultural, agricultural and experiential tourism.

The article also noted Gibson’s wider fame as an actor and recording artist, including his role in the Fast & Furious franchise. In broader context, Uganda has in recent years used tourism campaigns to connect agriculture, culture and travel in order to attract foreign attention and investment.
