AMD reveals the Radeon RX 9050—and 4GB graphics cards are back - PCWorld

PCWorld reported that AMD has announced the Radeon RX 9050, its first new desktop graphics card in nearly a year. The card is based on AMD’s Navi 44 platform, shared with the RX 9060 and RX 9060 XT, and AMD’s own specifications list a maximum memory size of 8GB of GDDR6. However, PCWorld noted that ASRock’s product information shows both 8GB and 4GB versions of the RX 9050.

According to PCWorld, AMD clarified that the 4GB model is a “system-only” version intended for use inside pre-built PCs, rather than as a standalone retail graphics card. PCWorld said that variant also reduces the memory bus compared with the 8GB card, which would lower memory bandwidth. The consumer 8GB RX 9050 is listed with a $279 introductory price, with initial availability planned for Latin America and Asia-Pacific/Japan markets; AMD did not share wider release plans in the article.

The report frames the 4GB configuration as a notable retreat for desktop graphics hardware, especially as 8GB has become a common baseline for many new PC gaming GPUs. PCWorld also cited specifications including 16 compute units, 16 ray-tracing cores, 64 texture units and 1,024 stream processors, positioning the RX 9050 as an entry-level product.

The development matters because graphics memory has become a key concern for gaming performance, creator workloads and newer software demands. While the 4GB RX 9050 may be limited to budget pre-built desktops, its appearance suggests manufacturers are still looking for lower-cost configurations even as many buyers expect more memory in new systems.
