Amb Nekesa Rallies Bukedi NRM Leaders Ahead of LC1 Elections

Nile Post reported that NRM National Treasurer Ambassador Barbara Nekesa Oundo met party and political leaders from the Bukedi sub-region to push for stronger grassroots mobilisation before the Local Council One and Village Women Council elections. The meeting was held at Marple Cottages in Kamonkoli Town Council, Budaka District, and brought together MPs, district chairpersons, NRM structure leaders and other stakeholders.

According to the report, Nekesa said village-level organisation remains central to the ruling party’s political strength and to maintaining contact with communities. She also thanked Bukedi voters for supporting President Yoweri Museveni and the NRM in the 2026 general elections, saying the coming local polls were a chance to reinforce the party’s base through active village structures.

Nekesa linked LC leadership to service delivery, arguing that national policies and resources depend on effective local leaders for implementation. She also referred to the NRM’s historical reliance on grassroots structures, drawing a connection between earlier mobilisation systems and the current Local Council framework. Nile Post said she cited programmes such as the Parish Development Model as initiatives that require organised leadership at village level.

The report said Nekesa urged leaders to use village barazas scheduled for July 22 to campaign for NRM flag bearers ahead of the Village Women Council elections on July 23 and LC1 chairperson polls on July 28. Bukedi Sub-regional Coordinator Rogers Mulindwa, who is also NRM Senior Manager for Communication and Media, attended with other party staff. The Bukedi meeting was described as part of a wider NRM mobilisation effort across Uganda before the grassroots elections.
