What the report says

Fox Business reports that some Amazon Prime customers have until July 27, 2026, to submit claims for refunds of up to $51 under Amazon’s $2.5 billion settlement with the Federal Trade Commission. The claims process is for eligible U.S. consumers who did not already receive an automatic payment and who say they were enrolled in Prime unintentionally or were unable to cancel the subscription online.

According to the report, Amazon agreed in September 2025 to create a $1.5 billion consumer refund fund and pay a separate $1 billion civil penalty, while not admitting wrongdoing. The FTC had alleged that Amazon signed consumers up for Prime without informed consent and made cancellation difficult. The settlement also requires Amazon to revise Prime enrollment and cancellation practices, including clearer disclosures and easier options to decline or end membership.

Fox Business says eligibility covers U.S. Prime customers who enrolled through certain FTC-challenged sign-up flows, or tried unsuccessfully to cancel online, between June 23, 2019, and June 23, 2025. The cited enrollment paths include Amazon’s universal Prime decision page, shipping selection page, single-page checkout and Prime Video enrollment process. Customers must also have used more than three but fewer than 10 Prime benefits during a 12-month period and must certify that the enrollment or cancellation issue applied to them.

Approved payments may be sent by check, PayPal or Venmo, with claims-process distributions expected in late 2026, though no specific mailing date has been announced. The FTC is warning consumers to avoid scams: neither Amazon nor the agency will ask for payment to release a refund.
