Alur Kingdom Mourns Tooro King Oyo as ‘Remarkable Sovereign Gone Too Soon’

The Alur Kingdom has issued a formal condolence message over the death of Tooro King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, describing him as a visionary ruler and a close friend of the Alur throne. In the statement, signed by Alur Kingdom Prime Minister Prince Lawrence Opar Angala, King Phillip Olarker Rauni III said he learned of the monarch’s passing with deep sadness and viewed him as a young leader whose full potential was not yet realised.

According to the Nile Post report, the Alur message highlighted the historical and cultural ties between the Alur and Tooro royal houses, saying their relationship had remained strong across generations. King Rauni also paid tribute to Oyo personally, noting the bond between the two young monarchs and calling him a true friend. The Alur Kingdom extended condolences to the Tooro Royal Family, the kingdom and the people of Tooro.

The report adds that Oyo became Omukama of Tooro in 1995 when he was three years old, after the death of his father, and was regarded at the time as the world’s youngest reigning monarch. Tooro Kingdom Prime Minister Calvin Armstrong Rwomiire Akiiki said Oyo died on Thursday, August 27, 2026, at about 10:00 p.m. while receiving treatment in the United States. The kingdom said burial and return arrangements would be announced later and that succession remained secure because an heir survives him.
