What the report says

The Alur Cultural Festival has rehabilitated seven water sources in Paidha Sub-county and Paidha Town Council in Zombo District, according to Nile Post. The project, carried out as a corporate social responsibility effort, restored four boreholes and three spring wells that had reportedly been out of service for periods ranging from one to 12 years. The work cost Shs5.36 million and was meant to improve access to clean water for residents who had depended on broken facilities for years.

The rehabilitated sources include springs and boreholes in Cwaramara Cell, Kaya, Amisi Cell, Cana Parish, Rukidi Cell, Kololo Cell and Mvugu Lower Primary School. The facilities were commissioned on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at Cwaramara Cell in Umua Ward. The event brought together representatives of Ker Alur Kingdom, Kaal Umua Paidha and local residents.

Festival officials said the repairs were intended as a way of giving back to communities that host the annual Alur Cultural Festival in Paidha. Communications Director Derrick Passy said the seven repairs were only an initial phase and that more damaged water points had already been identified. He also urged cultural institutions, development partners and communities to share responsibility for maintaining the sources.

Alur Kingdom officials praised the initiative, saying proceeds linked to the festival should help address real community needs. Residents interviewed by the publisher welcomed the restored water points, describing relief after long periods of walking farther for safe water. More broadly, the report highlights how cultural events in the region are increasingly tied to community development projects, alongside efforts to preserve Alur identity and traditions.
