What the report says

The Public Relations Association of Uganda (PRAU) has announced plans for a four-day Golden Jubilee Summit to mark its 50th anniversary, with events set for 20–23 October 2026 at the Source of the Nile Hotel in Jinja City. The program will conclude with the 10th PRAU Excellence Awards on the evening of 23 October. The Independent Uganda reported that the launch also introduced PRAU’s anniversary roadmap and the theme for the celebrations: “Celebrating 50 Years of Professional Excellence; Shaping the Future of Public Relations.”

PRAU, founded on 22 May 1976, brings together public and private sector public relations practitioners, communication specialists, brand managers and related professionals in Uganda. According to the report, the association says it has spent five decades promoting professionalism, capacity building, ethical standards and advocacy for the sector, including efforts toward formal recognition of the profession.

PRAU President Irene Nakasiita said the anniversary is meant both to celebrate the association’s history and to emphasize the role of strategic communication in institutional credibility and national development. Organising committee chair and former PRAU president Tina Wamala said the milestone should also be used to mentor younger practitioners and consider the future direction of the industry. The summit is expected to include knowledge-sharing sessions, networking, reflections on PRAU’s history and recognition of past leaders.

The Excellence Awards will recognize individuals, campaigns and organizations that have contributed to public relations and strategic communication in Uganda. Participation fees were also published, and PRAU listed a wide group of institutional partners and sponsors supporting the celebration.
