All Roads Lead to Sheraton as Luo Community Gears Up for Grand Legacy Dinner

What the report says
The Luo community is preparing for the Luo Legacy Dinner, an event being promoted as a celebration of cultural heritage, unity and community development. According to Dokolo Post, Robert Okodia, the Lango Sub-region focal person for the dinner, said the gathering is intended to do more than provide an evening of social interaction. He described it as a platform for preserving Luo identity, encouraging mentorship and supporting socio-economic transformation.
The dinner is scheduled for Saturday, August 8, 2026, at Sheraton Kampala Hotel under the theme “Building Bridges, Inspiring Change.” Organizers say it will bring together cultural leaders, professionals, business people, youth and friends of the Luo community from across Uganda. Planned activities include honoring notable community members, showcasing traditional music and dance, serving Luo cuisine, and displaying cultural artifacts.
A notable feature of the evening will be the launch of the Luo Digital Museum, which the Luo Foundation says will help preserve and share Luo history, culture and achievements through digital technology. Okodia said the project reflects an effort to protect cultural values while also embracing innovation and development.
Organizers are urging attendance from Luo people and supporters of the community, and they have published registration and exhibition rates for those wishing to participate. More broadly, cultural dinners of this kind are often used in Uganda and elsewhere as fundraising, networking and identity-building events, though the specific impact of this one will depend on turnout and follow-through.
