What the report says

Egyptian club Al Ahly are expected to arrive in Uganda ahead of their CAF Confederation Cup second preliminary-round match against Kitara FC, with the tie set for Saturday at Hoima City Stadium. According to Nile Post, both sides are aiming to reach the group stage, making the fixture a significant step for the Hoima-based club in its continental campaign.

Kitara chief executive officer Joshua Atugonza said Al Ahly’s advance team had already reached Hoima to examine road conditions and other logistics before the full squad’s arrival. He said the Egyptian side had considered using a private jet to Kabalega International Airport, but the option was not available because the airport had not yet received the required certification. With roadworks affecting the Kampala-Busunju route, the team is understood to have settled on the Kampala-Masindi road instead.

The report says Al Ahly are expected in Uganda at about 3am on Wednesday and should complete arrival formalities before travelling on to their hotel in Hoima. Both clubs are due to train at Hoima City Stadium before the match, with Kitara scheduled for a morning session and Al Ahly in the evening.

Kitara advanced after eliminating Mogadishu City in the previous round, also played in Hoima. Club officials said the players were fit and confident, while stressing that the team deserves respect despite Al Ahly’s stronger reputation. The result will decide which club moves on to the CAF Confederation Cup group stage.
