The citation for Dr Magoola praised his leadership and innovation in healthcare and economic development.

Dei BioPharma, founded in 2014, is building a large medicine and vaccine manufacturing campus in Matugga, north of Kampala, Uganda. The company says the site is intended to support broader local production, and it has also been working within Africa’s efforts to expand domestic health manufacturing. The African Union has set a long-term goal for the continent to produce more of its own health products, a target that gives added context to the recognition.

The award adds to earlier acknowledgements for Dr Magoola and reflects growing attention to African-led pharmaceutical research and manufacturing.
