Tunisian Prime Minister Sarra Zaafrani Zenzri is in Moscow for the 3rd Russia-Africa Summit and the accompanying Economic and Humanitarian Forum, which began on Wednesday, according to Tunis Afrique Presse as distributed by AllAfrica. She arrived on Tuesday evening with Foreign Minister Mohamed Ali Nafti and other officials, and is expected to take part in plenary and dialogue sessions as well as a series of bilateral meetings.
The summit is being held under the theme "For Peace, Security and Development" and is chaired by Russian President Vladimir Putin. The report says 48 African countries are participating, alongside 22 leaders and heads of state and government, with Putin due to co-chair a leaders’ session with Burundian President Évariste Ndayishimiye, who is also the African Union chairperson.
The forum on the sidelines of the summit is focused on cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, health, infrastructure, energy, technology and education. The agenda also includes professional events involving Russian and African businesses, with officials highlighting cooperation based on sovereignty and access to resources, food, fertilizers and modern technologies.
According to the report, participants are expected to adopt a joint declaration, an action plan for 2027-2029 and a declaration on artificial intelligence, along with other agreements and contracts. The gathering builds on earlier Russia-Africa meetings in Sochi in 2019 and Saint Petersburg in 2023.
