What the report says

Netflix used a press event in Rosebank, Johannesburg, to mark 10 years since its launch in South Africa and to outline a broader slate of local series and films. According to the report carried by Capital FM and distributed by AllAfrica, the company said its work with more than 30 local production companies has helped support over 8,000 jobs and has resulted in more than 300 South African titles being made available on the service over the past decade.

The announcement focused on both returning titles and new projects. Netflix said upcoming releases include additional seasons or sequels for several local productions, while new shows will cover formats such as reality television, family comedy, thrillers and drama. The company also named new and continuing partnerships with South African producers, reflecting an effort to deepen its local content pipeline as it enters a second decade in the country.

At the event, Netflix’s vice president of content for Middle East and Africa, Ben Amadasun, said the company wants to keep building on its collaboration with South African creators and audiences. The article also noted that some South African titles have drawn strong international viewership on the platform. More generally, the report shows how global streaming services are increasingly using local-language and locally made productions to reach regional audiences while exporting African stories to wider markets.

Netflix also launched a dedicated homepage collection, "A Decade In Africa: Worth Every Watch," to highlight South African and other African titles for viewers across Sub-Saharan Africa through the end of 2026.
