Africa: Launch Africa Ventures Backs 15 Startups As Early-Stage Funding Slows

AllAfrica, distributing a Daba Finance report from Abidjan dated July 22, 2026, reported that Launch Africa Ventures has made 15 new investments so far in 2026, maintaining activity in early-stage startup funding while many venture capital investors on the continent have become more selective. The firm, founded in 2020, focuses on technology companies from pre-seed through pre-Series A and has built a portfolio of more than 180 companies in 25 countries.

According to the report, the new deals cover areas such as artificial intelligence, business-to-business commerce, supply-chain technology, embedded finance and future-of-work tools. Named additions include Agridex, Udu Technologies, Fincart, Tayar, Khaime, Anavid, Mainstack, Growwr, Yamify, Legendary Foods and Masunga, with some capital also going into existing portfolio companies. Launch Africa’s broader sector focus includes fintech, health tech, agriculture, logistics, education and enterprise software.

Daba Finance reported that Launch Africa reviews over 1,200 startups annually before choosing investments. The firm also says it provides support beyond funding, including help with follow-on capital, commercial partnerships and access to a network of more than 400 limited partners in 45 countries. It recently made its first cash distribution to investors in Launch Africa Seed Fund I, returning about $2.5 million.

The development matters because early-stage African founders have faced a tougher funding environment as investors concentrate more capital in later or more established companies. Daba Finance cited Launch Africa’s head of investments, Uwem Uwemakpan, as saying the pullback in first-time venture deals may allow investors to back startups at more reasonable valuations while preparing companies for future larger rounds.
