What the report says

Google has launched a new “Skilling Africa with Google” learning hub aimed at expanding digital and artificial intelligence training across the continent, according to Capital FM, which was distributed by AllAfrica. The platform is designed to bring together more than 15 Google learning initiatives in one place, including Hustle Academy, Google Career Certificates and Google Cloud Skills offerings.

The company said the service is built for African learners who face barriers such as high data costs, uneven connectivity, limited devices and language diversity. It includes an offline-capable app, data-light lessons that can be downloaded over Wi-Fi, and access through Google Single Sign-On without requiring a separate app store download. The hub also offers short lessons in areas such as AI, cloud, digital skills, entrepreneurship and career development.

Google says the initiative is intended to help close an AI talent gap on the continent, where the report cited strong demand for AI-ready workers. The company’s stated target is to equip 3 million people across Africa with digital and AI skills by 2030, building on what it described as training more than 7 million young Africans through earlier programs.

The report also said the platform will include an AI study tool called SCOUT, plus gamified features such as progress tracking and badges. More broadly, this fits into a wider trend in Africa of governments, companies and educators pushing digital-skills programs as AI adoption accelerates, though the rollout and impact of such efforts vary by country.
