Africa: Eight More Nations Pledge New Circular Economy Roadmaps

What the report says
The African Development Bank Group says its African Circular Economy Fund is expanding support to eight more countries as part of a program to help governments draft or implement national circular economy roadmaps. The announcement, published through AllAfrica from AfDB in Abidjan, covers Angola, Liberia, Madagascar and Senegal in the planning phase, while Benin, Chad, Ethiopia and Mauritius move into implementation.
According to the report, the roadmaps are meant to help countries identify priority sectors, coordinate institutions and turn circular economy ideas into practical policy, funding and institutional capacity. The bank says this approach is intended to keep more resources and value within national economies, supporting industrialization, local jobs and investment. The article also links the effort to the AfDB’s broader development strategy and its push to mobilize more African capital.
The report says the first cohort has already helped identify priority sectors such as construction, forestry, agriculture, plastics, textiles, manufacturing, energy and water management. It highlights Chad and Benin as examples, noting that Chad’s plan targets green jobs and waste reduction, while Benin’s action plan sets long-term recycling, waste collection and business-creation goals. More broadly, the initiative reflects growing interest across Africa in using circular-economy policy to support growth, waste management and resource efficiency.
