Africa: Egypt's Reme-D Gets $1.45m to Scale Molecular Diagnostics in Africa

AllAfrica, republishing a Daba Finance report dated 22 July 2026, said Egyptian healthtech startup Reme-D has secured $1.45 million in Pre-Series A financing to increase production of molecular diagnostic tests and expand in Africa and other underserved markets. The round was led by Anara Impact Capital, with participation from the Global Innovation Fund, Africa Health Ventures and other investors.

According to the report, the new capital comes after a $500,000 investment from the Global Innovation Fund in April. Reme-D plans to use the funding to raise manufacturing capacity, enter more regional markets and develop additional diagnostic products. The Cairo-based company, founded in 2023 by Salma Tammam, makes molecular tests for diseases including tuberculosis, HIV, hepatitis and human papillomavirus.

Daba Finance reported that Reme-D has commercialized 30 diagnostic products and supplied more than 550,000 tests in Egypt, Kenya and Sudan since launch. Its tests are designed to tolerate higher temperatures, which can reduce reliance on cold-chain storage and help distribution in remote areas with weaker health infrastructure. The company also recently equipped a solar-powered mobile laboratory commissioned by the World Health Organization’s Egypt office for vector-borne disease monitoring.

The reported expansion includes a move to a new 1,500-square-meter manufacturing facility, which the company expects will increase production capacity tenfold, while also extending its work into genetic disease and cancer diagnostics. The development matters because many African health systems rely heavily on imported diagnostic tools and laboratory supplies; local manufacturing could help improve availability, shorten delivery times and strengthen disease detection if Reme-D scales successfully.
